Scope
The purpose of this workshop is to present and discuss the design and
implementation techniques for QoS Engineering for Internet services.
This workshop is the 1st international event organized by COST263
Action "Quality of future Internet Services" and explicitly focuses on
end to end services over QoS assured Internet, on the issues of
service creation, configuration and deployment.
The emphasis of this workshop is on engineering and provisioning of
novel services - IP telephony, video streaming, heterogeneous
multimedia multicasting, VPN, e-commerce services, etc. - based on
emerging building blocks of QoS assured Internet: Integrated Services
and Differentiated Services and their mapping to specific link layers
and legacy technologies.
Along with invited papers and panels, QofIS'2000 will offer keynote
speeches and technical demonstrations.
Papers are solicited on at least the following topics:
* QoS enhanced IP: IntServ, DiffServ and alternatives;
* Differentiated Services end-to-end deployment: defining and
supporting end-to-end services and per hop behaviours (PHBs);
* Performance of implementations: IntServ queueing mechanisms and
DiffServ PHBs;
* Internet traffic source models;
* Novel network performance calculi;
* Mapping Internet QoS to legacy interconnect technologies;
* Issues of end-to-end services with QoS (WWW, caching, real-time
applications. E-commerce, etc.);
* Inter-domain QoS: strategies, mechanisms, routing;
* Wireless access issues;
* User and network signalling for QoS;
* Measurement and monitoring based QoS support, measured QoS;
* Cost assessment and pricing schemes for Internet QoS;
* Active Services and Service Creation for Internet QoS;
* Policy-based QoS control for the Internet;
* Traffic Engineering for QoS Internet.
Best PhD student paper award
A PhD student should be the principle author and presenter of
submitted paper. This is to be indicated in the cover letter if a
paper is co-authored by student's advisor. PhD student papers will be
reviewed like all other papers and will be presented in the regular
sessions. A jury will select the best paper based on both the quality
of the written paper and its presentation. The winner will be awarded
the prize sponsored by one of the workshop sponsors.

abstract, and list of keywords. Identify the author responsible for
correspondence, including the author's name, position, mailing
address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address. One of the

The proceedings of the QofIS'2000 workshop will be published by
Springer-Verlag, Heidelberg in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science
([12]LNCS) Series and distributed at the event.
* All authors are strongly ecouraged to follow the manuscript
preparation guidelines found at LNCS' s [13]Authors Instructions
subpage.
* Note, that LNCS is now published, in parallel to the printed
books, in full-text electronic version (have a look at the
[14]LNCS Online Digital Library), therefore authors are also
requested to follow requirements for electronic formats of their
papers, drawings and submission formats.
* Providing a URL with the identical copy of submitted paper is
highly advisable.
* Authors of accepted papers will need to sign the LNCS
[15]copyright form.
