OBJECTIVES

Mobile cellular communication systems and wireless networking technologies are growing at an
ever-faster rate, and this is likely to continue in the foreseable future. Wireless technology is nowadays
being used to link portable computer equipments to corporate distributed computing and other sources
of necessary information. Wide-area cellular systems and wireless LANs promise to make integrated
networks a reality and provide fully distributed and ubiquitous mobile communications, thus bringing
an end to the tyranny of geography.

We propose to organize a high quality, special session on Mobile and wireless networks for the HiPC'2000
conference, (For details, see http://www.hipc.org). The objective of this session is to bring together
technologists and researchers of international reputation to have a forum for discussions and
presentations of their state-of-the-art work in all aspects of wireless communications and mobile
computing, with particular emphasis on performance modeling and analysis of mobile communications
      capability.

Authors are invited to submit original unpublished manuscripts for a special session on Mobile
Computing. Topics of interest include (but not limited to):

Performance modeling of wireless networks (PCS, Ad hoc, Satellite Networks)
Mobility, data, resource management, and scheduling issues in wireless and mobile networks
Mobile applications and tools for distributed databases
wireless Internet and WWW, simulation of wireless networks
            Mobile Agents
            Quality-of-service (QoS) provisioning
            Wireless multimedia systems
Routing and location independent information access
Parallel Simulation of large scale wireless systems
Security, scalability and reliability for mobile/wireless systems
Architectures of mobile/wireless networks and systems
            Traffic integration for mobile applications
Design and analysis of algorithms for mobile environments
Influence of lower layers on the design and performance of higher layers
            Scalable Servers Wireless Mobile Computing

                                                SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

To submit an original research paper, send your complete manuscript (not to exceed 15
double-spaced pages of text using 12 point size type on 8.5 x 11 inch pages) to the Program
Chair. References, figures, tables, etc. may be included in addition to the fifteen pages of text.
Electronic submissions are encouraged and should be sent to hipc2000@ac.upc.es. Electronic
submissions must be in the form of a readable postscript file containing the following header
information in ASCII form: Title, Author name(s), Abstract, Postal address, E-mail address,
            and Telephone and Fax numbers.
PLEASE ALSO INDICATE THAT THIS SUBMISSION IS FOR THE SPECIAL SESSION
            MOBILE TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORKS.
The header (in ASCII) should be followed by the postscript version of the complete manuscript
(including title, author's name, affiliation, and abstract).

Authors should submit a correct PostScript (level 2) file of their paper to be considered and
make sure that the PostScript file will print on a PostScript printer that uses 8.5 x 11 inch size
(US letter size) paper. All manuscripts will be reviewed. Manuscripts must be received by April
19, 2000. Submissions received after the due date or exceeding the length limit may not be
considered. Notification of review decisions will be mailed by June 30, 2000. Camera-ready
papers are due August 15, 2000. Proceedings will be available at the Conference.

Selected papers will be forwarded to the Journal of Interconnection Networks (JOIN http://www.cs.unt.edu/~boukerch/hipc2000/join-j.html) for
a special Issue on Performance Modeling of Mobile Telecommunication Networks

                                                    IMPORTANT DATES

Hard copy submissions are also permitted and, like electronic submissions, must be received by
