CONFERENCE LOCATION - Cape Town, South Africa
ABOUT CAPE TOWN
Cape Town's history goes back almost 400 years and it has a wonderful
charm from its diversity of people to historical monuments.
Cape Town is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cities
in the world. Nestled under majestic Table Mountain, Cape Town is
blessed with much natural beauty, resulting in six of the top seven
tourist attractions in South Africa all being less than an hour's
drive from the city centre.
The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, Cape Town's world famous waterfront
and working harbour is an exciting and vibrant place to visit, hotels,
bars, shopping, entertainment and over 40 cosmopolitan restaurants to
choose from. The waterfront boasts some of the city's finest seafood
restaurants and is an excellent venue for local musicians.
Robben Island - home to Nelson Mandela for most of his 27 years
imprisonment. You'll be ferried out of the Harbour amongst the
splashing of seals and taken on a historical tour to an island that
goes back hundreds of years. Robben Island is best known as a place of
banishment, but has so much more for the visitor to explore including
a lime quarry, a villa and plenty of wildlife.
Table Mountain dominates your sight wherever you are in Cape Town.
Take a trip up the mountain in the world-famous cable car and enjoy a
spectacular 360° view of the city and its' surrounds, or go up at
sunset and watch the sun setting over the ocean of sandy white
beaches. The adventurous can climb the steep mountain path, along the
way catching your breath whilst overlooking the city and bustling
harbour.
Cape Point is where you can see where the fish-rich Atlantic Ocean in
the West and the warmer Indian Oceans meet from an incredible
vantagepoint. The Cape Peninsula is one of the world's most beautiful
places; a stretch of rocky mountains jutting southward into the sea,
pristine beaches, sheltered bays and coves, quaint fishing harbours,
and a rich array of indigenous flora.
Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, set on the eastern slopes of Table
Mountain offers over 7000 different species of flora. Kirstenbosch is
home to the most diverse plant kingdom in the world, and is the
perfect place to visit and unwind.
Cape Wine Route is a must. You cannot leave without enjoying the
beauty of the Cape's wine route in which you'll visit the historic
villages of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschoek and enjoy interesting
and informative cellar tours where you'll be invited to view, taste
and buy some of the world's finest wines. The scenery of the winelands
enroute is breathtaking.
Looking outside the Cape, pre or post conference visits to the South
African Bushveld can be arranged, where delegates have the chance to
see untamed Africa, while still enjoying the luxury and comfort
offered by a selection of game reserves. Most are adjacent to the
renowned Kruger National Park and offer a wide range of accommodation,
excellent cuisine, personalised attention and the excitement of
game-viewing from open safari vehicles under the care of qualified
rangers.
Whether it is for the breathtaking scenery, incredible wildlife,
moderate climate, wonderful hospitality, diversity of people or the
sophistication of the cities, South Africa can cater for the tastes of
every discerning delegate and their spouse.
HOTELS
Cape Town offers a wonderful selection of hotels conveniently situated
within walking distance of the Breakwater Lodge (conference venue) in
the V & A Waterfront, at affordable prices. Accommodation has been
reserved at the Breakwater Lodge, which offers comfortable and
convenient dorm-style rooms at very reasonable prices. The Breakwater
Lodge, a former jail, is an excellent choice and offers a convenient
shuttle service to/from the Airport. Rooms cost US$25 per person
sharing to US$65 for a suite. Several other hotels are close by
offering accommodation at a range of prices.
FLIGHTS
Cape Town is an International Airport with many direct flights into
Cape Town and many flights via Johannesburg.
SPECIAL EVENTS
A comprehensive programme of social events will be planned. On your
first evening the welcome cocktail party will be hosted by the
Computer Society of South Africa.
You could enjoy a traditional Cape Malay Street Party where you'll be
entertained by diverse and colourful street artistes and savour
traditional Cape delicacies.
A Gala Dinner or traditional South African braai (barbecue) will be
held at one of South Africa's finest wine estates. A sunset trip by
coach to the venue through the spreading winelands of this region will
unveil some of the scenic splendour that makes the Cape one of the
most sought-after destinations.
Cape Town and South Africa will extend a warm welcome to all international
delegates, expose them to the excitement of the African Continent and the
beauty and charm of the Cape.
