OPENSIG 2001 Workshop
Next Generation Network Programming

http://www-dse.doc.ic.ac.uk/Events/opensig-2001/

Imperial College, London, UK
24, 25 September 2001

The next generation network will offer a seamless convergence of
communications, content and media. This can only be achieved by integrating
programmability into the network, integrating network awareness into the
applications, and creating a flexible programmable management architecture
that meets the concerns of all three domains simultaneously. In other words
the next generation network is not the Internet as we currently understand
it, and delivering it will require new approaches to network and system
building.

The OPENSIG agenda has long promoted the development of new and distinct
architectures and services through open network programmability. The
OPENSIG community offers a forum for the communication of experimental and
theoretical results aimed at a better understanding of the overall
networking architecture and the evolution of existing networking
infrastructure. This year, the theme for the OPENSIG 2001 workshop will be
"next generation network programming". The aim is to highlight the range of
evolution options emerging from research, that may form the basis of an
integrated next generation network. We hope to include sessions on a wide
range of topics including:

     * Flexible management
     * Active network architectures
     * Programming the network
     * Languages for network programming
     * Programmable network hardware
     * Intelligence and network agents

       Panel: Programmable network applications

As in the past the workshop will contain a number of invited talks,
however, additional speakers are invited to submit a one page abstract of
their proposed talk, on one of the topics mentioned or other topics related
to the theme to the workshop organisers.

The workshop is being organised by the British Telecom funded
Alpine Project
