OVERVIEW:

A mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) represents a system of wireless mobile
nodes that can freely and dynamically self-organize into arbitrary and
temporary network topologies, allowing people and devices to seamlessly
internetwork in areas without any pre-existing communication
infrastructure. These networks are energy and bandwidth constrained, and
designed to operate in a wide variety of environments, from military
networks (with hundreds of nodes) to low-power sensor networks (with
potentially, thousands of nodes). Many challenges remain to be resolved
before MANETs can be widely deployed, however. Major advances are called
for in the areas of wireless technologies, location and configuration
management, addressing and routing, security and Quality of Service
(QOS).

SCOPE:

This special issue will focus on the design, modeling and performance
evaluation of MANETs. The goal of this issue is to present the latest
research papers, however, tutorial papers on relevant issues will be
also
considered. The emphasis of the special issue will be on the enabling
technologies (e.g., wireless networks, multiple access protocols, etc.),
the network-layer issues (e.g., addressing, location, routing, etc.) and
the higher layers. Specific areas of interest include, but are not
limited
to:

        - resource and information management;
        - self-organizing network architectures and protocols;
        - routing in ad hoc networks;
        - addressing and location;
        - experimental and prototype results;
        - analysis and simulation of mobile networking protocols;
        - multiple access schemes;
        - wireless local and personal area networks;
        - sensor networks;
        - scalability for mobile ad-hoc networks;
        - power-aware network algorithms;
        - transport protocols;
        - QoS in Mobile ad-hoc networks;
        - Mobile ad-hoc networks applications;
        - home networking;
        - MANET and the Internet

        ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION: December 1, 2001
        FINAL MANUSCRIPT DUE: March 1, 2002

Authors are invited to submit manuscripts to Marco Conti by July 31,
2001.
Manuscripts should be no more 25 typewritten, double-spaced pages in
length. Electronic submission (pdf or ps format) is encouraged. If
electronic submission is not possible, authors should submit six copies
of
