This revolution is transforming the way people live, work, and interact with each other, and is impacting the way businesses, government services, education, entertainment, and health care are operating. It is safe to say that the multimedia revolution is already underway. Yet, several issues related to modeling, specification, analysis and design of distributed multimedia systems and intelligent multimedia applications are still challenging to both researchers and practitioners. IMMCN'2002, a constituent of JCIS'2002, serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas among practicing engineers and researchers from around the world, as well as highlight current activities and important topics in the field of intelligent multimedia systems and technology. Furthermore, all participants of this workshop may benefit from the communication and interaction with related research communities. The workshop organizers seek contributions of high quality papers addressing various aspects of intelligent multimedia systems and applications, for presentation at the workshop and publication in the proceedings. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: o photonics and optical communications o next generation Internet technologies o global network computing (grid computing) o cluster computing of multimedia systems o intelligent negotiation agents in E-Commerce o mobile agent technologies o recommendation systems in E-commerce o watermark technologies o network security o information security o intelligent multimedia o multimedia authoring tools and intelligent tutoring o educational applications o cultural heritage multimedia applications o intelligent network architectures o multimedia communications and networking o mobile network architectures o multimedia applications for CSCW, distant education o electronic commerce, tele-conferencing, tele-medicine o Web servers and services o multimedia software engineering o distributed multimedia databases and computing o image, video, audio content analysis and indexing/retrieval o multi-paradigmatic information retrieval o multimedia digital libraries and mail systems o intelligent multimedia workflows o OS support for distributed multimedia systems o multimedia stream synchronization o quality of service control/scheduling o audio and video compression o modeling and analysis of distributed multimedia systems o multimedia human-computer interaction o intelligent multimodal interaction o visual and multidimensional languages for multimedia applications o virtual reality, virtual environment, and their applications o animation and computer graphics o 3D audio and video o Java, VRML and multimedia languages o MPEG, Quicktime, Windows API standards Paper must be written in English. Please send four copies of your 4-page extended summary (10 point, double column, and single-spaced) and your choice of a full length double-spaced complete manuscript (include figures and references) to the workshop chair. The conference proceeding will publish the four pages of extended summary. The Information Science Journal will review the full length paper. Submitted papers will be reviewed by the PC members of the IMMCN'2002 workshop. The workshop organizers may also invite researchers to submit qualified papers related to the above topics. Invited/Special Sessions Papers submitted to special sessions are invited by special session chairs. Special sessions aim to collect research results from different qualified perspectives. Please contact the workshop chair if you are interested in organizing a special session. Special issue of the Information Science Journals Best ranked papers accepted at the workshop will be published in a special issue of one of the three Information Science Journals, subject to a quick review by the program committee. In addition, best papers will be invited to be published in another international journal. Theme and Scope 

In the last few years we have observed an explosive growth of 
multimedia computing, communication and applications. This 
revolution is transforming the way people live, work, and 
interact with each other, and is impacting the way businesses, 
government services, education, entertainment, and health care 
are operating. It is safe to say that the multimedia revolution 
is already underway. Yet, several issues related to modeling, 
specification, analysis and design of distributed multimedia 
systems and intelligent multimedia applications are still 
challenging to both researchers and practitioners. IMMCN'2002, 
a constituent of JCIS'2002, serves as a forum for the exchange 
of ideas among practicing engineers and researchers from around 
the world, as well as highlight current activities and important
