            Special Issue in the IEEE Communication Magazine on

        Wideband Wireless Access Technologies to Broadband Internet

   The past few years have seen an explosion of new wireless transmission
   technologies: infrared transmission within rooms, ultra-low power
   transmission effective over a few feet, and more-ingenious coding
   techniques that give higher bandwidth. A mature mobile wireless
   technology holds out a welter of opportunities. These ranges from
   hand-held devices that support personal videoconferencing to
   self-configuring desktop networks that use low-power wireless to
   identify and interconnect components (no more mess of cables!).

   This special issue will focus on architectures, protocols, and
   performance of wireless wideband networks as well as wireless access
   technologies to broadband Internet. It will also try to cover ongoing
   technological and standards developments in wireless application
   protocols. Submission of recent work of lab/group is highly
   encouraged. The attempt is to bring together a mix of papers that talk
   to general architectures and infrastructures from academic and
   industrial research. We invite the submission of high-quality papers
   on advances of state-of-the-art of wireless local loop and wireless
   broadband access networks. Both theoretical contributions (including
   new architectures/techniques, concepts, and analyses) as well as
   practical contributions (including new systems, prototypes, and new
   applications) are encouraged. The general scope of the special issue
   includes, but not limited to:
     * Network architecture and protocols
     * Performance evaluation of wireless broadband and the Internet
       applications
     * Wireless protocols for broadband networks
     * Wireless protocols for the Internet
     * Modulation and coding
     * Propagation and channel characterization
     * Security and authentication
     * Standards for wireless broadband networks
     * Systems and services for the Internet
     * Global and local mobility management
     * Wireless network management
     * Interface of wireless and wireline networks

   Authors should submit an electronic postscript or PDF copy of their
   papers to any of the guest editors listed below by the due date.
   Submissions should be limited to 20 double space pages excluding
   figures, graphs and illustrations. If email submission is impossible,
   then six (6) copies of the paper should be sent to the address given
   below:
