Scope:
A mobile agent is a program that can start execution in a node, stop execution,
then move to another node to resume execution. The technology is rooted in
process migration, and emerged in the mid-1990s with the advent of Telescript
and Java. A lot of research has been done on the topic in both academia and
industry since then.
Research in mobile agents has so far focused on the development of platforms
and on the application of the concept, in particular on its application to
various telecommunication areas, ranging from network management to information
retrieval, including software distribution. However, their applicability
remains open to debate.
Several papers have been published in the past on mobile agent technology and
the expected benefits. However, much less has been published to support the
many claims. The key goal of this special issue is to publish tutorial oriented
articles that discuss the applicability of mobile agents to telecommunications.
In this proposal, telecommunications is used in its broadest sense to include
the Internet.
Papers describing meaningful implementations, experiments, case studies and
field trials in areas including (but not limited) to the following will be
considered:
Mobile Agent platforms for telecommunications applications.
Mobile Agent-based telecommunication networks control and management
Mobile Agent-based applications for 3G Mobile Systems (e.g. VHE, MEXE,
location aware services)
Mobile Agent-based applications for VoIP Networks
Mobile Agent-based applications for the Internet (e.g. E/M-Commerce,
information retrieval)
Mobile agent for ad hoc networking
