Overview
Mobile computing has emerged as an important area of computing today. The
mobility of users offers new challenges to seamless connectivity in a distributed
, heterogeneous network of wireline and wireless components. Several
techniques and algorithms developed by the parallel processing community can
be applied to solve typical mobile computing problems: routing, scheduling, load
balancing, cache coherence, information access, and QoS provisioning.
Scope
The objective of this special issue is to showcase some of the recent
developments in the area of wireless networks and mobile computing that
leverage research findings in parallel and distributed computing. The topics
covered for this special issue include:
Processor Architectures for Mobile and Wearable Computers
Routing in ad hoc networks
Parallel and distributed techniques for solving problems in mobile
computing
Distributed techniques for QoS Provisioning in mobile environments
Distributed caches in mobile computing environments
Caching, prefetching, pushcaching and replication to enhance
information access
Distributed wireless sensor networks
Routing and location independent information access
Scheduling issues in mobile computing
Parallel/distributed algorithms for mobile computing systems
Distributed mobile multimedia systems
Distributed mobile agents
Pervasive computing and information services
Wireless Internet
