2002 IEEE Workshop on
High Performance Switching and Routing (HPSR2002)
Merging Optical and IP Technologies

The emerging dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) has caused tremendous increase in the speed
of data transmission during the past few years. The explosion of Internet traffic has led to a greater need for high-
speed switches and routers. In addition, the switches and routers are required to provide quality-of-service (QoS)
support, e.g., differentiated services (DS), where packets are classified into several priority levels and are
managed differently. The scope of the workshops has been continually expanding to switching and routing
aspects of IP, optical networks, and wireless communications. The 2002 Workshop will include presentations on
original research in two parallel tracts and a day of tutorials.
Submitted papers will undergo three independent reviews, and accepted papers will appear in the conference
proceedings. Original papers are invited on such topics as (but not limited):
- High-speed Internet Backbone - 3G/4G network evolution
- IP/WDM integration - Routing and signaling protocols
- ATM networks - Traffic engineering and control
- Optical networks - Quality of service
- Next Generation Mobile Network - Performance measurement and evaluation
- Gigabit/terabit routers - Terminals
- ATM/IP integration - Network management and operations
- MPLS and GMPLS - Tariffing, accounting, and charging
- Programmable networks
