Skiathos ("The Island of Poets"). Skiathos is a beautiful, wooded
island, far greener than one would expect a Greek island to be, which
has between 60 & 70 fine sandy beaches, many of which have not become
overcrowded & some of which can be virtually empty, even in the height
of summer. The environment is incredibly varied & can range from
hidden, wooded valleys (like our own in Zorbathes) to Monasteries set
against a backdrop of barren rock, from shallow beaches with pastures
behind to plunging cliffs with beaches nestling below them, only
accessible by boat. There are several offshore islands which are worth
visiting and where you will find beaches with less people on them than
   the main island ones.
At the eastern end of the island is the main town, also called
Skiathos, surrounding a well sheltered harbour which fills in the
summer with every type of vessel from 3 metre fishing boats to 11
metre yachts to 40 metre motor yachts. In Skiathos town you can find
everything. It is a thriving, cosmopolitan centre that hums with
energy during the summer months contrasting nicely with the lazy beach
days. You can have a slow ouzo on the waterfront, boogie all night,
shop 'til you drop or fill yourself at one of the many of tavernas &
restaurants. Whatever you fancy, there will be someone catering for
it. Places of interest & beauty worth a visit are: The church of
Aghios Nikolaos, The Old Castle, The Bourtzi, The Plakes, The
graveyard (where my father was buried for 3 years), The boatyard by
Megali Ammos Beach, Papadiamantis House A walk through the upper west
part of Skiathos, from the Health Centre down to the Plakes and up &
back to the fish market and Old Port. This is the most original part
of Skiathos and the narrow streets give it a lot of atmosphere. The
main road follows the south coast until it reaches the west end of the
island & terminates at Koukounaries beach. Many famous Artists of
Greece, like Alexander Papadiamantis and Alexander Moraitidis were
born in Skiathos ("The Island of Poets").

      INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE

General Chair:Prof. V. Kluev, Univ. of Aizu, Tsuruga, Ikki-machi,
   Fukushima, Japan.
Welcome Address by the General Chair:
   Dear Colleagues,
The idea of the organization of a forum on Modern Information
Technologies and Robotics was successfuly realized last year in Malta
by the World Scientific and Engineering Academy and Society (WSEAS).
Many researchers from all over the world
attended. This conference is one of the largest and most important
scientific forum sponsored by the WSEAS. This year the Second
Multiconference will be held in Skiathos Island, Greece on September,
25 -28. On behalf of the WSEAS and in my own name, I would like to
invite you to submit papers to this conference. WSEAS promotes the
development and the unified consideration of new methods and
computational techniques, as well as their applications in science and
engineering. This conference covers the most important topics in
Signal, Speech and Image Processing; Multimedia, Internet and Video
Technologies; Simulation, Modelling and Optimization; as well
Robotics, Distance Learning, and Intelligent Communication Systems.
The aim of this conference is to discover new challenges in various
branches of Information Technologies, to foster opportunities for
international collaboration between scientists all over the world, and
to explore directions for further research. Your excellent papers will
elevate the conference to new academic heights. Participating in this
conference is an honor because you will meet distinguished and world
renowned scientists, academic members and practitioners working on
Information Technologies and Robotics. I hope you that you are aware
that WSEAS always offers participants excellent proceedings and superb
Post-Conference books, published by WSEAS Press International
Editions. And that is not all. There will also be an opportunity for
journal publication for participants. This year a magnificent island
in Aegean Sea was selected for the conference sight. You will
experience the exciting town of Skiathos. A visit to Skiathos offers
participants wonderful opportunities to create pleasant memories of
their trip and the conference. The conference is waiting for your
submissions of your latest research. Good luck and best wishes,
   Vitaliy
