International Conference on Information Society Technologies for
Broadband Europe

Conference focus, issues and coverage 

The Conference  is being  held shortly  after the  official launch  of the 
eEurope2005 Action  Plan, and  at the  transition period  from the  5th to 
the  6th Community  Framework Programme  (FP) for  Research, Technological 
Development and Demonstration. It will address the following issues:       

-  RTD challenges  for the  technologies  essential to  the deployment  of 
broadband infrastructure, applications and services in Europe              
-  Role  of  the  candidate  countries   in  this  RTD  agenda  and  their 
participation in IST-FP6                                                   
- Impact of broadband Europe on the economy and society                    

The  technical  focus  of  the  Conference  will  be  on  Information  and 
Communication Technologies developed within the FP5-IST Programme, also to 
be  addressed in  FP6, which  are essential  for the  development and  the 
implementation of Broadband in Europe.                                     

Targeted  audience  Present  and   prospective  participants  in  the  IST 
Programme, from the EU, the candidate countries and more globally, with an 
interest in broadband technologies and services.                           


Conference programme

The  2-day Conference  Programme includes  plenary sessions,  and parallel 
technical sessions in three topical streams:                               

-  Technologies  for  Broadband  Access  Networks  (including  Mobile  and 
Personal communications),                                                  
-  Digital  Interactive  Generic   Applications  and  Services  (including 
Software Technologies for the future, Audio-visual Systems Networking),    
-  Enabling  Component   Technologies  (including  Photonic  Technologies, 
Microsystems and Micro-electronics). A series of Workshop Events are being 
organised for the 3rd day.                                                 


Conference organisers

The Ministry  of Communications  and Information Technologies  of Romania, 
with the support  of the Ministry of Education and  Research, the Romanian 
Academy, and the research Institutes  INSCC and ICI, in close co-operation 
with Directorate E of DG Information Society (IST Key Action 4).
