CALL FOR PAPERS

Special Session in SPECTS 2003 on
"Design and Performance Evaluation of Group Communication in Parallel and
Distributed Systems"

in The 2003 International Symposium on Performance Evaluation of Computer
and Telecommunication Systems (SPECTS' 2003)
July 20 - 24, 2003, Wyndham Hotel, Montreal, Canada

http://www.dcs.gla.ac.uk/people/personal/mohamed/ss-spects03.html

SCOPE OF THE SPECIAL SESSION:

The provision of efficient group communication operations, e.g. broadcast,
multicast and barrier synchronisation, is critical to ensuring good system
performance as they are often performed at several system levels ranging
from the communication network, operating system, to the application. The
purpose of this special session is report novel ideas and latest research
results relevant to the design and performance issues of group communication
in parallel and distributed systems. Papers surveying the state-of-the-art
are also very welcome. The topics considered in this special session
include, but are not limited to:

· Algorithms for group communication
· Theoretical design frameworks
· Novel Design approaches
· Workload characterizations of group communication
· Performance modelling and simulation
· Performance analysis and evaluation
· Comparison and optimisation
· Case studies showing the impact of groupcommunication on system
performance (e.g. at network and application level)

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS:
Authors are invited to submit manuscripts reporting original unpublished
research and recent developments in the topics related to the special
session. The length of the papers should not exceed 25 double-spaced pages
including figures and references on 8.5 by 11 inch paper using at least 11
point font. Papers should be submitted electronically in PDF format (or
postscript) by sending it as an e-mail attachment to aldubai@dcs.gla.ac.uk
or mohamed@dcs.gla.ac.uk. All papers will be peer reviewed according to the
procedures established by the conference. Review comments will be provided
to the authors. Accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings
published by the Society for Modeling and Simulation International (SCS).
The proceedings will be available at the conference site.

Extended version of accepted papers in SPECTS 2003 will be considered for
possible publication in scholarly journals.

IMPORTANT DATES:
Submission Deadline: January 31, 2003
Author Notification: April 22, 2003
Final Manuscript Due: May 22, 2003
