Call for Papers for a Symposium of the VTC 2003 - Fall conference:
Access Protocols and Scheduling for Wireless Systems
Symposium co-chairs:
Prof. Romano Fantacci (University of Florence) and
Dr. Giovanni Giambene (University of Siena)
Scope of this Symposium
Radio transmissions have opened new frontiers allowing the exchange of
information with mobile terminals. From the first applications of
telegraphy and radio broadcast, wireless transmissions have obtained a great
success with the widespread diffusion of mobile communications up to the
current third-generation mobile communication systems. The unique
capabilities of new cellular systems are expected to provide users with
multimedia applications. The air interface still represents the system
bottleneck, by limiting the available user bit-rate due to both spectrum
shortage and radio propagation impairments. This Symposium will be focused
on the aspects related to the efficient management of radio resources in the
presence of heterogeneous traffic classes and error prone radio channels. A
particular emphasis will be given to novel adaptive solutions for both the
access phase and the traffic scheduling in order to guarantee adequate
Service Level Agreements.
This Symposium is addressed, but not limited to, the following research
topics:
· Medium access control protocols for wireless systems
· Vertical integration in the management of protocols on the air interface
· Scheduling approaches for quality of service guarantee with multimedia
traffics
· Stability analysis of access protocols
· Adaptivity in the resource management
· Energy-efficient access strategies
· Novel resource management techniques for 4G air interfaces
· Impact of traffic-self similarity on scheduling, resource allocation
and system dimensioning
· Access schemes with adaptive transmission bit-rate
· Access schemes in networks with high propagation delays
· Services integration and user mobility management
· Access and scheduling schemes for hybrid networks
· Improved scheduling approached in 802.11 based networks
· Reliable communications over wireless links
· Radio channel influence on MAC protocols performance
