   The ascendance of networked information in our economy and daily lives
   has shown that performance and dependability are intimately related in
   practically all types of computer systems and networks. Analysts,
   designers, and system administrators must consider the relationships
   between the occurrence of errors/failures and their impact on
   performance and on degraded service modes, both in the computer
   systems themselves and in the interconnections between the system's
   components.

   The Performance and Dependability Symposium aims to bring together
   academic and industrial researchers in these two areas, with emphasis
   on integrating theory and practice. Relating analytical techniques to
   simulations, actual measurements, and experiments will be the broad
   theme of the symposium. Research and practice relating to hardware and
   software issues in parallel and distributed systems and networks will
   be emphasized.

   We invite original papers and other contributions reporting research
   and practical results covering all aspects of assessment of
   performance, dependability and security applied, but not limited, to:
   - Software/Hardware Systems
   - Real-Time Systems
   - Wireless and Wire-line Communication Systems
   - Distributed Systems and Networks
   - Parallel and Clustered Systems
   - Multiprocessing Systems
   - Transactional Systems
   - Systems for Fault-tolerance
   - Security and Dependability

   Regular papers, practical experience reports, tool
   descriptions/demonstrations, and panel proposals related to the
   assessment of performance, dependability and security are especially
   welcome in the following topics:
     * Analytical and simulation techniques
     * Measurement techniques
     * Benchmarking
     * Design and use of assessment tools
     * Operational data analysis
     * Performance, dependability and security issues in the
       administration of large computer systems
     * Case studies and issues in the design of computer and
       communication systems
     * Transaction performance and recovery
     * Fault injection and robustness testing
     * Experimental studies of the impact of tools and processes
     * Security measurement and modelling

Information for Authors

   Manuscripts in the following categories will be refereed and
   considered for publication in the Proceedings of the 2004
   International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks.
   Excessively long submissions, unoriginal work, or work that is
   submitted to multiple venues will be disregarded. Please submit inany
   of the following categories by November 14, 2003:
     * Regular Papers describing original research.
     * Practical Experience Reports describing an experience or case
       study.
     * Tool Descriptions/Demonstrations.
     * Panels, including the proposed topic(s), a description of the
       panel objectives, and the names and addresses of probable
       panelists.

   The title page should include the title of the paper, author name(s),
   affiliations, mailing address, phone number, fax number, and email
   address, a maximum 150-word abstract, five keywords (to help with
   referee assignment), the submission category (see above), an
   approximate word count, and a declaration that the material has been
   cleared through author affiliations. For multi-authored submissions,
   the contact author should be indicated.
   The format of submissions for review should be single-column, Times
   11-point size, double-spaced:
     * 20 pages for Regular Papers (equivalent to 10 IEEE conference
       pages),
     * 12 pages for Practical Experience Reports and Tools (equivalent to
       6 IEEE conference pages),
     * 4 pages (equivalent to 2 IEEE conference page), plus biographical
       sketch, for Panels.

   The format for final, camera-ready submissions that have been accepted
   for publication should be in accordance with IEEE standard conference
   paper format.
   Submit all materials in electronic form through the web to:
   http://www.dsn.org
   Format: Portable Document Format (.pdf) files
   Please preview the manuscript in a viewer such as Acrobat to ensure
   its integrity before submitting it. Make sure you visually check
   uncommon fonts, symbols, equations, etc. A defective print can
   undermine your chances of success. For those who are unable to submit
   materials electronically, please contact the program co-chairs for
   special instructions.
