CALL FOR PAPERS

The 8th World Multi-Conference on SYSTEMICS, CYBERNETICS AND INFORMATICS (SCI 2004)
July 18-21, 2004, Orlando, Florida (USA)
http://www.iiisci.org/sci2004/, http://www.iiis.org/sci2004/

Invited Session on:
Architecture and Protocols for Next Generation Mobile Networks

Scope

With the convergence of the telecom, datacom and mobile communications, there is a need for
overhaul of network architecture and protocols to accommodate heterogeneous radio links,
to enable new applications and services, and to support seamless interworking of emerging

and existing network elements. Next-generation (4G or beyond 3G) mobile networks promise
to offer not only high-rate reliable radio and large system capacity but also more flexible network
architecture, low system cost and new services. It will close the gap between the wireless and
wired Internet, and integrate various radio access technologies under IP, including 3G
cellular, wireless LAN, wireless PAN, ad hoc mobile networks and sensor networks. New
applications and services will be introduced with QoS support, including broadband mobile
multimedia, peer-to-peer services, collaborative services, location-aware and identity-aware
information delivery, and etc. This transition in wireless network infrastructure presents many
technical challenges and research topics.

This special session at SCI 2004 is intended to provide a forum for researchers and
practitioners to present their contributions as technical papers related to architectures, protocols
and applications, applicable to the next-generation wireless and mobile networks. Possible topics
of interest include, but are not limited to:

Architectures and protocols for next-generation mobile network
Integration of wired and wireless networks
Inter-networking and inter-service roaming between different radio access systems
Signaling and control
Network management
Session management
Mobility management
QoS issues
Authentication, admission and confidentiality
Resource management
Seamless evolution to 4G
Related standards (3GPP, 3G.IP, ETSI, IETF?)
Mobile multicasting
Novel applications for 4G mobile networks
