A special issue of the International Journal of Wireless and Mobile
Computing (IJWMC), published by Inderscience Publishers, is scheduled
to appear during the last quarter of 2004, on the topic of 'Media
streaming over Wireless and Mobile networks'.

Submissions on all research areas relating to media streaming over
wireless and mobile networks are welcome.

Subject coverage

Recent advances in wireless and mobile communications have set the
scene for introducing new services. In fact, progress in media
streaming promises to make content available for the large population
of mobile users, from anywhere, at any time. However, streaming over
wireless and mobile networks is still in its infancy and many
challenges should be faced in order to enable its full scale
deployment. Audio-visual information must be tailored to the
variability of effective bandwidth, the processing and display capabilities
of the mobile devices.
Furthermore, users should be able to customize their viewing experience.
Apart from addressing access network and terminal heterogeneity, the
services offered should be scalable, reliable and QoS-enabled. Also,
special issues arising from the mobility of users such as the
midstream handoffs of streaming sessions should be investigated. This
special issue of the International Journal on Wireless and Mobile
Computing will collect and archive the state of the art in the
provision and support of media distribution mechanisms for wireless
and mobile networks. Areas of interest include but are not limited to
the following topics:

    * Adaptive video delivery for real time streaming
    * Overlay network solutions for media streaming in ad hoc networks
    * Streaming over wireless protocols
    * Seamless handoff of streaming sessions
    * Scalability and QoS aspects in streaming over mobile networks
    * Streaming video applications for Personal Area Networks (PANs)
    * Real time multimedia applications featuring Universal Multimedia
      Access
    * Mobile Streaming Content Delivery Networks

Submission of papers

Submissions should include a cover page with authors' names,
affiliations, fax and telephone numbers and e-mail addresses. Please
submit full papers electronically, not previously published or
submitted for publication elsewhere and not exceeding 15 single spaced
pages, in PDF format. Hard copies can only be sent if electronic
submission is not possible.

Please submit full paper for consideration to this special issue to
the guest editor by 2 February, 2004 (New deadline: 27 February, 2004).
