                        Journal of Internet Technology

                               Special Issue on
"Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks"

                 *** Submission Deadline: March 15, 2004 ***

Theme and Scope:

A wireless ad hoc network comprises mobile hosts in a network bereft of base
stations and covers multi-hop scenarios such as conference, hospital, battlefield,
rescue, and monitoring scenarios. Wireless ad hoc networking is an emerging topic in
computer networking and communication networks. Message communication takes place in
terms of multi-hop spreading. Furthermore, a particular one of ad hoc network systems is
wireless sensor network. Sensor networks may have a wide range of applications, including
security and surveillance, control, actuation and maintenance of complex systems, and
fine-grain monitoring of indoor and outdoor environments. They usually involve a large
number of spatially distributed, energy-constrained, self-configuring, and self-aware
nodes.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth based medium access control
- Analytical, mobility, and validation models for ad hoc and sensor networks
- Hybrid networks and wireless Internet
- Routing protocols in ad hoc and sensor networks
- Power-aware, low-power and energy-efficient designs, and energy-saving control
- Quality of service in medium access control and routing
- Data management issues, query processing etc.
- Clustering and cooperative strategies for ad hoc and sensor networks
- Target tracking and location-based Services
- Self-configuring and self-healing schemes
- Modeling, performance evaluation, and simulation tools
- Services and applications (e.g., in the area of automobile, battlefield, bio,
construction, disaster, environment, medicine, military, recovery, security, etc.)
