Call For Papers (and revised submission date)

The First Australian Workshop on Network Support for Interactive Multimedia
and Games (NSIM'04) is being held this year in Sydney, Australia on December
10th as part of the Australian Telecommunication Networks and Applications
Conference (ATNAC 2004).

We are soliciting papers for NSIM'04. Papers are due September 12th (note the
revised, later submission date).

Workshop Scope:

Improvements in both graphics technology and broadband Internet access have
led to exciting developments in real-time interactive entertainment on the
Internet. In particular the online games industry is evolving quickly. Fast
paced first person shooter games now support up to hundreds of players while
the server farms of massively multiplayer games support over 100,000 players
simultaneously. Online games (and multiparty, real-time immersive environment
applications in general) represent a challenging new market for Internet
Service Providers and game hosting companies.

This workshop will focus on presenting papers that examine network issues
related to this class of application, and looking past the current generation
- what is the future of interactive entertainment, what demands will this
class of applications place on networks in the future and what can we do to
support them. The workshop's scope includes (but is not limited to) the
following topics:

* Modelling and measuring immersive virtual environment or interactive
multimedia network traffic.

* Network issues that will arise from scaling immersive environments to
thousands of players (e.g. for Massively Multiplayer Online Games).

* Network support for distributed game and interactive multimedia servers. -
Network support for the next generation of games.

* Distributing interactive multimedia.

* Supporting interactive entertainment and network games over wireless access
or ad hoc networks.

Paper Submission:

Authors are invited to submit full or short papers for presentation at the
conference. Full papers (no more than 8 camera-ready pages in the required
