Scope of the Conference
Wireless communications is today one of the most dynamic
sectors of our global economy. The introduction of third
generation mobile communications is no longer imminent but
incident in Europe, and throughout the world. At the same time,
research for wireless communication systems beyond the third
generation is in full swing.
The European Wireless 2005 Conference focuses on
technologies, protocols, services and applications that will enable
a full seamless and nomadic user access to new classes of
multimedia services with a user-centric focus. Service provision
will occur at the home, at the workplace, at leisure and during
travel. The vision is to integrate the wireless local area and next
generation cellular networks and develop the next generation of
future wireless communication. Such networks will enable the
provision of ubiquitous wireless services, which will become
more and more innovative as they are driven by the consumer
demands of the user and as a result of competition between the
service providers. This is the main theme chosen for the
European Wireless 2005 Conference, which will be held in
Nicosia, Cyprus, on April 11-15, 2005. The focus of the
conference will be the technical challenges which need to be met
in order to make the vision of the ubiquitous provision of
innovative wireless services a reality.
Conference History
The European Wireless (EW) has happened so far alternating
with the European Personal and Mobile radio Conference
(EPMCC).
Earlier events of the EW have been:
1. Oct. 1998, Amsterdam, Netherlands, together with European
Microwave Conference
2. Oct. 1999, Munich, Germany, together with European
Microwave Conference
3. Sept. 2000, Dresden, Germany
4. Feb. 2002, Florence, Italy, http://www.ing.unipi.it/ew2002/
5. Mar. 2004, Barcelona, Spain,
http://research.ac.upc.es/EW2004/
Earlier events of the EPMCC have been:
1. Nov. 1995, Bologna, Italy
2. Sept. 1997, Bonn, Germany,
http://www.comnets.rwth-aachen.de/EPMCC97/
3. Mar. 1999, Paris, France
4. Feb. 2001, Vienna, Austria,
http://www.tuwien.ac.at/forschung/news/a-
001211_epmcc.htm
5. Apr. 2003, Glasgow, Scotland
In 2004 the TPCs of both conferences decided to join both
conferences and continue under the unique name of European
Wireless. The 11th event of this combined conference series is
happening in 2005 at Cyprus.
