TERENA Networking Conference 2005
6-9 June 2005
Poznan, Poland.
The TERENA Networking Conference 2005 is organised by TERENA, the
Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association, hosted
by the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Centre (PSCN), operators
of the Polish Research and Education Network, Pionier.
TERENA Networking Conferences are prominent annual events, offering an
opportunity to present and discuss technical and strategic aspects of
the provision of networks and services to the research and education
community, and the corresponding research and development activities.
They bring together leading figures from the research networking
community in Europe and worldwide, and provide a unique opportunity to
learn about the latest developments and plans.
The theme of this year's conference is: "The World of Pervasive
Networking".
"Pervasive networking" refers to the next generation networking
environment where information and communication technology are
available everywhere, for everyone, at any time and for a wide range
of applications.
Although this theme encompasses numerous new technologies such as
sensor networks and computer mediated reality, we intend to keep the
focus of the conference on "Pervasive networking" in the academic and
research community. Of particular relevance this year will be the
deployment of the GÉANT2 pan-European backbone which will develop an
increased service portfolio including a testbed and on-demand
"wavelengths", that should be well underway by the time of the
conference, as well as the deployment of a pan-European Grid
infrastructure under the auspices of the EU-funded EGEE project.
However, other topical areas of interest such as mobility,
policy-based authorisation infrastructures, real-time services,
security, IPv6, and the testing and deployment of all-optical networks
in the research networking environment will also be covered in depth
in order to keep you fully aware of the very latest developments.
The conference offers a unique opportunity for technical networking
specialists and users of research networks to meet and discuss
requirements for the future. The conference will also include
presentations on the important legal and policy issues that influence
and, indeed, threaten the fundamental structure and the future of the
Internet in general and the research and education networks in
particular.
The conference will be structured around keynote presentations and
invited talks, complemented by presentations of reviewed papers and
panel discussions.
Olivier Martin
Programme Committee Chair
The conference presentations will focus on the technology as well as
the user applications and related issues in the following areas:
* THE NEXT GENERATION NETWORKING AND COMPUTING ENVIRONMENT: ultra
high-speed optical networks, inter-institutional Grids, "lambda"
Grids (Bandwidth on Demand), next generation Web services and
semantic Web, sensor networks
* ON THE CAMPUS: involving the end-user, management, IPv6
deployment, reliable multicast, security infrastructures
* OFF THE CAMPUS: reliable bulk data transfer protocols, quality of
service (QoS), performance measurements, distance learning,
virtual environments
* EVERYWHERE: European roaming infrastructure (EduRoam), mobility
issues and technologies, real-time applications, voice and video
over IP
* FOR EVERYONE: widening the user community of research and
education networks, legal issues, digital copyright
* SAFE AND SECURE: single sign-on federations, network and system
security, application data security, privacy, biometrics,
cyber-terrorism, spam, intrusion detection, NOC co-ordination
* IN EUROPE AND WORLDWIDE: GÉANT2, connectivity in southeast and
eastern Europe, the Mediterranean, Latin America and Asia and
global connectivity
SUBMISSION OF EXTENDED ABSTRACTS
The deadline for submission of extended abstracts is 30 November 2004.
TO SUBMIT EXTENDED ABSTRACTS, PLEASE PLACE THEM IN THE DROP BOX AT:
www.terena.nl/tnc2005/submit/
Extended abstracts (rather than full papers) are invited on all
subjects relevant to the spirit and objectives of the conference: to
present, discuss and learn about the latest developments in networking
technology for the research and education community and their use by
the community.
The above topics are an indication of the planned scope of the
conference, but are not meant to be restrictive.
Extended abstracts of about 1200 words (two A4 pages) must be
submitted in English, the official language of the conference. The
abstracts should be structured according to the "Formatting Guidelines
and Submission Instructions for Authors", which is available from the
conference website at: www.terena.nl/tnc2005/guidelines.html
Closer to the date of the conference, TERENA will issue a Call for
Short Presentations to provide an opportunity to present late-breaking
news in sessions dedicated to recent results in the development and
deployment of networking infrastructures, user services and
applications.
The Conference Programme Committee will review all abstracts submitted
to the conference on the basis of a set of criteria including the
quality of the submission and its relevance to this conference,
originality and international scope of the subject matter and the
extent to which presentations of a similar content were made at
previous TERENA conferences.
FORMAT
Extended abstracts should be submitted at:
www.terena.nl/tnc2005/submit/ in HTML, PDF, Word or as plain ASCII
text files.
STRUCTURE for EXTENDED ABSTRACTS
All abstracts should be structured in the following order: Title,
Authors, Author Affiliations, Keywords, Abstract, Acknowledgements,
References, Author Biographies.
AUTHORS AND AUTHOR AFFILIATIONS
The first and family names of all authors and co-authors should be
provided. The organisational affiliation, postal address and e-mail
address of each author should also be listed, for example,
Carol de Groot, TERENA Secretariat, Singel 468 D, 1017 AW Amsterdam,
The Netherlands
E-mail: carol@terena.nl
KEYWORDS
Abstracts should include between one and five keywords to describe the
contents. Each keyword (which may be a phrase or a single word) should
describe a single concept. Conjunctives (words such as "and", and
"while" which join words or, phrases together) and common words such
as "computer" should be avoided. Abbreviations and acronyms should be
spelt out (e.g. "Asynchronous Transfer Mode" instead of "ATM") unless
the abbreviation is so well established that the full term is rarely
used, for example, use "laser" instead of "Light Amplification by
Stimulated Emission of Radiation".
Please indicate where you think your subject fits into the listed
subject areas for the conference.
Author Biographies
Short biographies (maximum of 100 words) should be provided for each
author of the paper. Biographies should be included at the end of the
paper under the heading "Vitae".
NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE
Notification of acceptance will be sent to authors by 30 January 2005.
