CALL FOR PAPERS
Journal of Pervasive Computing and Communications Special Issue on
Key Technologies and Applications of Wireless Sensor and Body-area Networks
The rapid progress of wireless communication and embedded micro-sensing MEMS
technologies has made wireless sensor and body-area networks possible.
Wireless sensor nodes can be deployed in a sensing field to monitor events that
we are interested in. In particular, human body could be a potential sensing
field. Body-area, wearable sensor networks may greatly improve our daily life.
A wide range of applications may be developed in health care, scientific,
industrial, and military areas. Current technologies have not fully addressed
these emerging ubiquitous/pervasive environments. Moreover, these sensor nodes are
typically energy-hungry, energy-constrained, bandwidth-scarce, computation-poor,
and storage-limited, and thus the scalability issue needs to be addressed when
they form a large wireless network.
Key technologies to realize the applications and to overcome the challenges in
the areas of wireless sensor and body-area networks need to be studied. This
special issue invites quality papers articulating new perspectives related to
these issues. Both original research papers and application papers are welcome.
Application papers describing challenging system and development experiences are
also welcome. Submissions addressing the integration with other computing and
communication technologies are also welcome. Topics that are targeted in this
special issue include, but not limited to:
Localization and location tracking
Power management and energy-efficient design
Topology control and time synchronization
Coverage problems
Middleware and software tools
Data gathering, aggregation and dissemination
Embedded network-oriented operating systems
Networking architectures and protocols
Cross-layer architectures
Mobility management
Self-organization and governance
Security and dependability issues
Integrated system with wireless sensor and body-area networks and
its applications
Interacting with other wired/wireless/mobile networks and systems
Modeling and performance evaluation
Implementation experience and measurements
Demos and Prototypes
Prospective authors should submit manuscripts to one of the guest editors,
preferably via emails, with a cover letter containing a title and an abstract
of the paper. The guest editors will target at providing timely reviews and
responses to authors.
